The Getty: A Thousand Beautiful Things
I just returned from a week in LA–and a wonderfully busy week it was…
In the midst of running around town to meetings with buyers and editors, I met with the Getty Museum who carries our jewelry line, and had the opportunity to spend two glorious afternoons roaming both the Getty Museum and The Getty Villa. I absolutely love how you can completely lose yourself when given the opportunity to experience a different time period, an artists point of view, or an object of beauty that speaks to you in some divine way. It was a reminder to me that although we are all so busy it is so important to take time out to experience art and history. It not only inspires but makes us more interesting people.
Here are some of my favorites from my visit:
Caspar David Friedrich’s “A Walk at Dusk” is so haunting and moody. I was captivated by his color blending and the otherworldy quality of his work.
I love the mystery.

Simon Denis’s “A Study of Clouds with a sunset near Rome”. I am a fan of big puffy clouds and these clouds were so divine and soft I wanted to sit on one of them and watch the world go by for an afternoon.

The day I went to the The Getty Villa in Malibu the sky was blue as far as you could see and the view of the ocean from the campus was breathtaking. I wandered through the galleries and gardens—it was perfectly peaceful and pastoral.

The focus of the Getty Villa is on Greek and Roman antiquity which is a treat for me as I take inspiration from this time period in my work.
I LOVE this statue of Venus. It feels like a combination of old and new to me. It is a classic pose yet her stance feels very modern to me and of course I love the draping of her gown.

My visit to the Getty Villa ended with lunch overlooking the ocean….what a perfect day!
