Inspiration Summer 2009

The pursuit of Inspiration….

It is a long and interesting journey, and in my experience it has always involved taking the road less traveled. Perhaps this is not always the most advisable but I am definitely one of those people that does things in an unconventional way—-it is part of my process and always leads me to surprising discoveries.

Robbie (my husband and business partner) and I decided to launch our jewelry collection seven years ago on a wing and a prayer. We chose to follow our star not knowing where it would take us-and what an amazing journey it has been. All of the amazing people we have met, worked with, and developed incredible friendships with over the years have in turn opened our minds and hearts and inspired us to take our dream to the next level. It has been such a thrill for me over the years to see my designs on all of you, each piece is still so personal to me and is made with great love in our studio. It is a tradition at Robindira Unsworth to send our jewelry off into the world with the intention to make your life a rich and beautiful one.

I am often asked “where do you find your inspiration”?

The quest for inspiration is such an individual journey. I have come to the conclusion that for me it is a process of letting the light from within out into the world and seeking–always keeping an open heart and mind and keeping my eyes wide open–lest something be missed. The process of design is not always tangible–it is a feeling that I have an obsession with a sense of balance that I inherited from my parents– both artists who always followed the beat of their own drum.

Sometimes it is hard for me to rationalize why a piece of jewelry has to be the way it is, why the stones have to sit exactly where they sit– but it is something that I feel in my bones. If one of my designs is produced with even the slightest variation it upsets the balance I had intended in my moment of inspiration.

The beauty of inspiration is that it comes from so many different sources all around us, and once you are in touch with it you see it everywhere. After years of design my eyes are trained to miss nothing when I am out in the world….every little detail I see is stored away. Perhaps later to be retrieved and translated into an element of beauty.

The design process is such a wonderful mystery…

You are such an inspirations to me…
You describe with such depth the same thing I feel when I get inspired. It is an innate force, passion an obsession. I’m currently working on getting my jewelry business off the ground. I have been on and off for some time trying to decide if I want to go for it 100%. I’m a designer by trade, graduate from FIDM I design clothing, jewelry, home decor… I have worked as a designer for different companies and I’m finally at home with my two daughters after getting laid off and thought, “I should just do it” well I’m doing it, I have decided that this year I will give it 100%, and just reading about your journey gives me such encouragement! Sometimes we write something and we don’t know the impact it will have… I thank you for sharing your heart and your passion, keep writing…
